Chx Leoville Barton & Langoa Barton released

One of the great names of Bordeaux, Second Growth Chateau Leoville Barton delivers reliably excellent, quintessential St Julien with reasonable pricing.  Smooth & muscular with vivid fruit, Leoville Barton 2023 shows its pedigree with its suave tannic structure and impressive length, and stands out from previous vintages with the highest proportion of Cabernet yet, from 87% Cabernet Sauvignon and 3% Cabernet Franc (for the first time) & 10% Merlot. 

Sensibly priced at £336 per case 6, as always one of the very best in the appellation and a top 2023, this is a wine to follow year on year.   Once again a fraction of the price of other top St Julien Second Growths, Leoville Barton is the Wine Advocate's top-rated St Julien tied with Leoville Las Cases (£831 per 6).   "The 2023 Léoville Barton is a lovely classic in the making...it's somewhat reminiscent of the estate's terrific 2016."  94-96 WA, William Kelley

Also now released, Chateau Langoa Barton made by the same team, comes recommended at £177 per 6.  Consistently one of the best value Classed Growths, it will drink earlier than its stablemate and have a wide drinking window.  The new cellar is making a difference with more precision in blending = more refinement.  93-95 WA, William Kelley who notes: “This classic blend of 60% Cabernet Sauvignon, 37% Merlot and 3% Cabernet Franc is sure to number among the intelligent purchases of the en primeur campaign."
