Top Quality Italian Chardonnay

"The Cervaro della Sala and Bramìto della Sala continue to be huge standouts and a perfect example of the heights that Chardonnay can reach in this region."
Marchesi Antinori's Castello della Sala is arguably Italy's most famous white wine estate with the fossil rich soil found here perfect for producing top quality Chardonnay. This beautiful medieval estate is located on a hilltop near Orvieto in Umbria, near the Tuscan border. The flagship wine, Cervaro della Sala, is often referred to as the "Batard Montrachet of Italy", only offered in very limited quantities and is becoming increasingly hard to find. We are delighted to offer the mouth-watering Bramito from the estate’s younger vines and made from 100% Chardonnay.
"The amazingly successful Cervaro della Sala has arguably done more to raise the image of Italian white wine than any other single bottle."
Monica Larner, The Wine Advocate
Castello della Sala
Part-barrel fermented, the 2022 Bramito shows good quality rich and creamy fruit, light pineapple peel and crisp golden apple. Floral, sapid and mineral in character, with a short stay in oak. Excellent fresh finish and a great value alternative for lovers of white Burgundy.

2022 | Chardonnay Bramito Della Sala, Castello della Sala | 6x75cl | 6 | - | £110 | CS(6) | [Add to shopping basket] | - | - | - | - | - |
"Rich and savory in the glass, the 2022 Bramìto della Sala slowly opens to show hints of young peach and apricot, crushed rocks and hints of cardamon. This is silky yet lifted in feel with ripe white pit fruits complemented by hints of vanilla bean and lemon custard. The 2022 finishes with admirable length and potency, as a bump of residual acidity maintains a lovely freshness. Bramìto della Sala remains one of the best values in Italian Chardonnay."

Bocca di Lupo
For everyday drinking from further south, we were highly impressed by the organic Pietrabianca 2019, from Antinori’s Bocca di Lupo estate in Puglia. Named after the white stones in the soil here, Pietrabianca is mainly barrique-aged Chardonnay with the rest Fiano adding freshness and minerality. This is a more mineral-tinged style than Bramito, showing off crisp white fresh fruit.

2019 | Pietrabianca, Tormaresca (Antinori) | 6x75cl | 5 | - | £95 | CS(6) | [Add to shopping basket] | - | - | - | - | - |
"There’s a pretty streak of green botanicals, apples and lime that defines the 2019 Pietrabianca from start to finish. It’s perfumed and mineral in style, more savory than sweet, and a juicy core of acidity keeps the experience vibrant and fresh. A twang of tart citrus and hints of kiwi linger as the Pietrabianca leaves you thirsting for more. Drink 2021-2025."
