Argentina's Finest

Adrianna Vineyard

Some of the World’s most exciting wines are coming out of Argentina at the moment with Catena Zapata and El Enemigo producing some of the finest examples.  These pioneering producers are leading a new wave of Argentine winemakers, where fruit and terroir is at the forefront.

EL ENEMIGO

There is no doubting the incredible value for money offered by El Enemigo from Argentina's Uco Valley.  These are terroir wines - from vines planted high in the Andes, where the cool breezy climate, limestone volcanic soils and sharp contrast in day/night temperatures give aromatic wines with elegance, lift and structure.  They are made by Alejandro Vigil, the talented winemaker of Catena, and Adrianna Catena.  These are beautifully intense, terroir driven wines with a stunning sense of freshness.  Inspired by Bordeaux but with added Argentine flare.

"Whether it’s the vineyards of Gualtallary — which we refer to as Mendoza’s Montrachet — in Valle de Uco or the lower sections of Agrelo, Alejandro always manages to produce exceptional wines that encapsulate Mendoza’s diverse soils, terroirs, microclimates and grape types."  James Suckling

The flagship Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard is the wine of the range showing serious Cab Franc complexity whilst The Gran Enemigo - a blend of 50% Malbec with the rest made up of Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot shows excellent floral character and minerality, it will drink well for a decade.   The El Enemigo Chardonnay is also well worth highlighting, a creamy rich white with plenty of interest and saltiness that will also reward a few years in bottle.  An absolute steal.

CATENA ZAPATA

Lovers of the world’s finest Malbec and Chardonnays will be delighted by the wines from Catena Zapata’s high altitude Adrianna Vineyard.  The site of a dried river bed, the stony, limestone soils are well drained and the extreme high altitude (5000 feet elevation) provides the ideal amount of sunlight and cold, at the limit of vine cultivation.  Laura Catena says that finding a site like Adrianna or La Tache or Lafite is like finding gold; a combination of research, historic knowledge and luck. Production for the top bottlings is minuscule with just over 5,000 bottles of River Stones produced, and around 6,000 of the Stones and Bones.  We can also offer some high class Malbec from Catena's other vineyards.

“The wines are phenomenal, true to their place and vintage”  Wine Advocate, Luis Gutierrez
