Bordeaux 2019: Evangile, Lafite, Duhart Milon, Valandraud...

Evangile.jpg

Chateau L'Evangile is released onto the market first thing this morning at £876 per 6 or £1752 per 12 – which is 25% less than the 2018 and with 50% less released onto the market.

Part of the Chateau Lafite stable, when everything comes together, Evangile can produce an extremely seductive Pomerol – rich and spicy, mouth filling and complete. By all accounts 2019 has achieved this and Pomerol is emerging as one of the best appellations in 2019“The Rothschilds are pushing l’Evangile to the highest level of the Pomerol hierarchy.”

“From the very first moment your nose approaches the glass you know something special is happening. Seductive, rich, mouth-filling to the point that you really understand what that means. Just pops out of your mouth, with evident density of luscious blackberry and brambled raspberry fruit but also vertical climb through the palate. Violet notes marry with baked earth, grilled liquorice, tension and seduction. Highest level of Cabernet Franc in the blend in recent history, and first time that they have used all of the Cabernet Franc available in the vineyard - also first time to have this touch of Cabernet Sauvignon since the Rothschilds arrived at the property. Have I tasted a better l'Evangile? Certainly not at this stage, and one of the very few wines in 2019 that I can say without question approaches a perfect score. I don't give 100s at En Primeur but this is off the scale delicious, and I already can't wait to taste it in bottle.” 98-100 Jane Anson Decanter

Also from the Lafite stable, their other Classed Growth estate in Pauillac -  Chateau Duhart Milon, situated right next to Lafite, to the west.  “A very balanced refined Duhart” with “clear Pauillac character” it is now available at £312 per 6 or £624 per 12 – 5% cheaper than 2018 (but more expensive than other vintages).

Chateau Lafite at £5112 per 12 and Carruades de Lafite at £1896 per 12 are now released onto the market.  However, with all allocations reduced by 50% we will be offering to last year’s buyers first once we have finished our purchasing.

Chateau Valandraud, the original garage wine is also released at £560 per 6 or £1120 per 12.  Just 1000 cases are made.  After a big price rise in 2018, the Chateau has made an effort to reduce the price, putting it on par with the 2015.
