Burgundy 2018: HENRI GOUGES

Domaine Henri Gouges.jpg
Located in the heart of the Cote d'Or, Domaine Henri Gouges was founded in 1925 and was one of the first domaines to bottle its own wines.

Arguably the most famous estate in Nuits Saint Georges, since 2007 the domaine has been run by Henri's great-grandson Gregory. Classic, structured Nuits in style, with ripe fruit from old low-yielding vines.

NUITS ST GEORGES 2018
£195 per 6x75 IB
"Mid cherry red. Lifted, scented and inviting. So fragrant. Dry, peppery, more savoury on the palate. Lovey freshness and purity. Open but should age very well. Moreish, harmonious. Drink 2023-2030."

Premiers Cru

"A slightly fresher array is comprised by notes of cassis, red and dark berry liqueur and plenty of newly turned earth elements. There is better energy to the opulent and very rich medium weight flavors that terminate in a perceptibly warm finale that exhibits slightly better length. Drink 2026+"

"Wonderfully seductive nose – ripe, dark-fruited and generous. Then quite a contrast on the palate: quite oaky, a touch of char adding a savoury note. Firm, compact, fresh, all to come. Drink 2025-2035."

"The 2018 Nuits Saint-Georges Les Vaucrains 1er Cru comes from a mixture of 20- and 80-year-old vines and was cropped low, around 25hl/ha. It has a floral bouquet with pressed rose petals and potpourri almost dominating the red fruit. The medium-bodied palate offers fine tension; you would think there was some stem addition here, but there is none. I like the mineralité and vigor on the finish, which is precise and long in the mouth. Excellent.  Drink 2021-2038."
