NEW RELEASE: 2016 OPUS ONE

Opus One
We are delighted to offer the latest release of the iconic Californian Opus One - the joint highest-ever scoring vintage in the Wine Advocate (97+).  Opus One is the hugely succesful joint-venture between the Rothschild family of Mouton Rothschild and Robert Mondavi.  The excellent 2016 vintage saw ideal growing conditions with cold nights and cooler than average daytime temperatures, enabling fruit to ripen slowly and evenly, marrying Napa fruit with the elegance of Bordeaux.

“a very decadent expression of Opus One with a provocatively effortless harmoniousness that is truly difficult to resist”

Tasting it last week, 2016 Opus One is superb – there is fabulous aromatic complexity, then great depth of dark fruit, measured and without excess.  It feels very sophisticated indeed, smooth as silk, with Opus One’s hallmark ultra-refined tannins.  The finish goes on and on.  First Growth quality,  this has a bright future ahead.

Fantastic aromas that are complex and complete with blackcurrants, blueberries and herbs, such as basil and bay leaf. But always subtle. Full-bodied yet linear and very refined with a very persistent finish. It shows drive and brightness. So refined at the end. Needs at least three to five years to come together."
99pts James Suckling

Very deep purple-black, the nose reveals profound notions of chocolate-covered cherries, crème de cassis, blueberry compote and licorice with touches of tobacco, cedar chest, Sichuan pepper, eucalyptus and violets. Full-bodied, super concentrated and packed with black and blue fruits... firm, ripe, finely grained tannins and oodles of freshness, finishing long and perfumed. This a very decadent expression of Opus One with a provocatively effortless harmoniousness that is truly difficult to resist."
