Today sees the release of some of the top wines of the right bank from Ets Jean-Pierre Mouiex, beginning with their flagship wine, La Fleur Petrus.  "Christian Moueix and his winemaking team have done a remarkable job over the last decade to bring La Fleur-Petrus into the league of Pomerol’s titans"  Robert Parker.  Taking its name from near neighbours Petrus and Lafleur, the dramatic improvement in quality has been matched by increased demand Worldwide.  The "stunning" 2018 is released at £995 per 6 and continues a fine run of vintages for the Chateau.

94-97 AG "The 2018 Lafleur-Petrus is a stunning wine... As good as the 2018 is on first impression, it is also magically persistent, with an eternal finish and fabulous balance."

Chateau Belair Monange is located next to Ausone on the limestone soils of the upper plateau and hillside, it has been transformed under the Mouiex ownership and is definitely one to follow.  Recent vintages have really started to show the estate's incredible potential and the 2018 receives the same score (97-99) from the Wine Advocate as Cheval Blanc and Figeac!  Released at £700 per 6, the 2018 is beautifully layered with gorgeous dark raspberry, sweet spice and cocoa all leading to a long finish.  Elegant, rich and powerful with seamless tanins and plenty of freshness it is one of the standout wines of the vintage.

97-99 WA "Full-bodied, rich and decadently layered in the mouth, the densely packed layers are charged with energy, supported by firm, velvety tannins and a racy line of freshness, finishing very long and very spicy."
98-99 JS "a very focused and tight core of beautiful fruit... a seamless and limitless finish."

Finally we have Certan de May, situated across the road from Vieux Chateau Certan, it is "another beautiful wine and possibly one of the finest to date from this château".  Released at £520 per 6 the 2018 displays an extra level of finesse on previous vintages with great vibrancy and silky tanins.

97-99 WA - A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the medium to deep garnet-purple colored 2018 Belair Monange comes bounding out of the glass with all the energy and vigor of a pedigree puppy, offering notes of warm plums, wild blueberries, black raspberries and Morello cherries with touches of chocolate box, lilacs, underbrush, menthol and damp soil plus a waft of incense. Full-bodied, rich and decadently layered in the mouth, the densely packed layers are charged with energy, supported by firm, velvety tannins and a racy line of freshness, finishing very long and very spicy.

CERTAN DE MAY |   £1040 per 12x75  |  £520 per 6x75
93-95 WA - The 2018 Certan de May is composed of 70% Merlot, 25% Cabernet Franc and 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Medium to deep garnet-purple colored, it sings of red cherry compote, redcurrant jelly and black raspberries with nuances of potpourri, fallen leaves, tapenade and cinnamon toast plus a waft of cigar box. The palate is medium to full-bodied with a wonderfully plush texture and seamless freshness supporting the generous fruit, finishing long with a spicy kick.

94-97 AG - The 2018 Lafleur-Petrus is a stunning wine. Creamy, ample and generous, the 2018 has it all. Silky tannins and bright floral notes give the 2018 an air of sophistication to play off the rich, textured fruit. As good as the 2018 is on first impression, it is also magically persistent, with an eternal finish and fabulous balance.
