STUNNING CHEVALIER MONTRACHET

Philippe Colin
"head to head with the vintage's best"

We are delighted to offer the exceptional 2015 and 2016 Chevalier Montrachet from Philippe Colin, a winemaker to follow closely.  Colin's 2015 is Neal Martin's highest scoring Chevalier Montrachet of the vintage and it was recently upgraded to 96 points by the Wine Advocate: "a superb Chevalier-Montrachet that went head to head with the vintage's best".

Only 3 barrels of the 2016 were made (usually 5) and it is rated higher by Neal Martin than the 2016 Chevalier Montrachet from both Leflaive and Sauzet!  Both vintages are offered here considerably cheaper than the recently released 2017 (£3,300 per 12) and with higher scores - don't expect these to hang around for long.

"Keep an eye on winemaker Philippe Colin because I feel he has really started to make some special wines in recent vintages."
Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, Dec 2016

2015 CHEVALIER MONTRACHET, PHILIPPE COLIN
£1,225 per 6x75cl IB

“a stunning wine that wafts from the glass with aromas of crisp yellow orchard fruit, ripe citrus and spring flowers. On the palate, the wine is full-bodied, pure and racy, with an elegantly satiny attack, superb concentration and brilliant cut and underlying structural tension. Tangy but textural, this is a superb Chevalier-Montrachet that went head to head with the vintage's best."
96pts William Kelley, Wine Advocate, October 2018

“a sophisticated and somewhat effortless Chevalier-Montrachet, not powerful but extremely poised, with lip-smacking salinity gracing the persistent finish. Superb.”
95pts Neal Martin, Vinous, November 2018

2016 CHEVALIER MONTRACHET, PHILIPPE COLIN
£1,400 per 6x75cl IB

“very well balanced with neatly integrated oak from the two new barrels, good weight in the mouth with a spicy vein that emerges toward the tensile finish. Despite the depleted quantity and the traumatic growing season, this is a very well-crafted Chevalier-Montrachet.”
93-95pts Neal Martin, Wine Advocate, December 2017

“really lovely texture to the notably concentrated and extract-rich flavors where the extract coats the palate and buffers the moderately firm acid spine shaping the saline and mineral-inflected finale... this beauty should be approachable sooner than is typical for Chevalier, it will still need at least 3 to 4 years"
93pts Allen Meadows, Burghound, June 2018
