New Release: SAFFREDI 2016

"From about 2004 onwards, Saffredi has made another major move and is now among the very finest wines being produced anywhere in Italy."
Antonio Galloni
Released today, we are delighted to offer the 2016 Saffredi Pupille, a pure, aromatic expression of Maremma which continues a line of very strong vintages.  2016 is proving to be a great vintage in Tuscany and that is certainly the case from this revered estate.  James Suckling has recently upgraded this wine from 96-97 to 99 points; "Muscular yet wonderfully formed and refined”.
A wine described by James Suckling as 'a benchmark in Tuscany's Maremma region' and 'the Lafite of Tuscany', the first vintage of Le Pupille's Saffredi was 1985, at which time it was a small winery with just 6 hectares of vineyards. Christian Le Sommer, former winemaker at Chateau Latour, took over winemaking at the property in 2000.  Saffredi is aged for 15-18 months in 100% new barrels and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot from a single vineyard on the hillside of the Tuscan coast near the city of Grosseto.
