2015 CLOUDY BAY TE KOKO - 93 WA

Cloudy Bay
An Iconic Wine from New Zealand's Original Icon.

We were all impressed when we tasted the new release of Cloudy Bay's highly sought-after barrel-fermented white wine, Te Koko, in the office today. The 2015 is undoubtedly their most successful yet, with a best-ever score from the Wine Advocate of 93/100.

The 2015 Te Koko is a serious Sauvignon Blanc, reminiscent of a top Pouilly Fume. It has a gorgeous mouth-filling palate with tropical fruit, citrus and crisp green apple all underpinned by a flinty mineralilty and with a vibrant acidity coursing throughout.

We also still have some availability for the estate's flagship 2017 Sauvignon Blanc before the new vintage lands in October, as well as the 2014 Te Wahi Pinot Noir (93pts James Suckling).

2015 TE KOKO, Cloudy Bay
£130 per 6x75cl IB  (£27.60 per btl inc duty & VAT)

93 Wine Advocate  "The 2015 Te Koko offers pungency and passion fruit on the nose, followed by a wine of great concentration and intensity. Hints of struck flint add complexity, while the mouth-filling palate boasts a rich, multilayered texture and a lingering finish. Only 8% aged in new French oak and about a third of the wine went through malolactic fermentation, leaving it with crisp acids and a great sense of elegance and balance. Drink 2018-2025."  Joe Czerwinski

2017 SAUVIGNON BLANC, Cloudy Bay
£85 per 6x75cl IB  (£19.60 per btl inc duty & VAT)

The flagship Sauvignon Blanc is hugely popular throughout the world and especially in the UK - crisp, vibrant, refreshing Marlborough Sauvignon with bracing flavour.

90 Wine Advocate  "in a difficult vintage, the wine has turned out excellent. Hints of snow pea pods accent tropical fruit notes in a wine that is soft, round and harmonious, showing ample concentration and length despite the rain-plagued harvest. Unlike the 2005, a freakish vintage that continues to drink well, I'd opt for drinking the 2017 over the next year or two. Drink 2018-2019."  Joe Czerwinski
89 Decanter  "Senior winemaker Tim Heath describes this new release as fuller than 2016 in character, with more succulent fruit weight. Swirl your glass and the classic Marlborough Savvy aromas that made this wine so famous jump out at you: exuberant tropical stone fruit, lime and lemon. About 5% of the blend spent four months in oak with lees stirring, adding roundness and depth to a palate which combines fruit intensity with lively acidity. Drink 2017-2020."

2014 TE WAHI PINOT NOIR, Cloudy Bay
£225 per 6x75cl IB  (£47.60 per btl inc duty & VAT)

Te Wahi 2014 is a blend of two vineyard sites in Central Otago; the Calvert vineyard on Felton Road in Bannockburn produces wines that are rich and dense, whereas the newly acquired Northburn vineyard yields wines that are more structured and tannic.

93 James Suckling  "A fragrant, floral pinot that is a blend of the Calvert and Northburn Station Vineyards in Central Otago. Notes of sappy and stone-flecked red-cherry fruits with spicy and smoky complexity; the palate is succulently ripe and has a handy freshness. Long-layered tannins abound with plenty of juicy plum and dark-cherry flavors. Drink now."

92 Decanter  "This expression of Pinot from the high quality Central Otago region (which happens to be the world's most southerly wine region) is made in a bold style, with 14 months spent in 35% new French oak to add texture and complexity. The nose is quite delicate, with violet and cherry aromas. But on the full-bodied intense palate, striking flavours of iron, ripe red fruit and dark chocolate are framed by fine but grippy tannins. The finish is silky and long. Drink 2017-2025."
