Branaire Ducru Chateau.jpg

2nd May 2018.

First up amongst today's releases is a classic St Julien from Chateau BRANAIRE DUCRU released at £410 per cs - "This is a very fine Branaire Ducru" 91-93 Neal Martin.

Quantities at Haut Medoc Fifth Growth LA TOUR CARNET were 60% down this year with with the 2017 released today at £252 per cs.  The "bright and vivid" Chateau POTENSAC is also available at £205 per cs offering great every day drinking.  Stricter selection is really helping to boost the quality here - "One of my favourite wines of the primeurs tastings. Should be GV." Julia Harding MW.

We can now offer TOUR SAINT CRISTOPHE at £260 per 12 (91-93 from NM and Jeb).  Situated on the slopes of Saint Emilion on dry stone terraces, it escaped the frost this year.  Owned since 2012 by Hong Kong businessman and investor Peter Kwok it is now made by the former winemaker of Pomerol's La Violette and Le Gay.

Saint Julien

£410 per 12 btl / £205 per 6
91-93 Neal Martin "smooth texture, fine tannin, just a subtle savory note developing and merging nicely with the black fruit, hints of white pepper and cedar towards the poised finish that is quintessential Saint-Julien... This is a very fine Branaire-Ducru."
90-93 Wine Spectator "The plum and cherry paste flavors show good energy, with floral lift and sleek graphite accents adding to the sense of range and definition. Well done."

Haut Medoc

£252 per 12 btl
92-93 James Suckling "Very tight and polished with pretty density and tannins. Medium to full body, good length and excellent balance."
92 Decanter "This is holding its own in terms of quality of tannins and weight. It has a lot going for it - a classic Médoc signature that offers juicy, well filled out cassis and tobacco notes. I love what the Magrez team have been doing at La Tour Carnet in recent years, and this keeps up the pace."

£260 per 12 btl
91-93 Neal Martin "The aromatics are packed with black cherries, cassis and bilberry, just a light touch of the sea emerging with time. The palate is medium-bodied with succulent ripe tannin, plush black cherry and boysenberry fruit laced with orange rind and quince towards the fresh and focused finish. Very fine."
91-93 Jeb Dunnuck "I tasted the 2017 Château Tour Saint Christophe on two sperate occasions and it never failed to impress... a terrific 2017 that will drink nicely for 10-15+ years."
