CHARLES HEIDSIECK BRUT RESERVE NV (base 2008)

Charles Heidsieck Brut Reserve close

Tyson Stelzer - author of The Champagne Guide and a regular columnist for Decanter and the Wine Spectator - became the latest critic to heap praise on Charles Heidsieck, naming the estate his top mover and shaker of 2018.

Stelzer singled out the phenomenal Brut Reserve NV (base 2008) as offering unrivalled quality for the price and we couldn't agree more.  We are delighted to offer this wonderful champagne at a keen price.

"The rise and rise of Charles Heidsieck over the past seven years is unparalleled in the sparkling world. Brut Réserve NV has no rival besides Krug itself (at three times the price), currently reverberating with 40% reserves (of average age 19 years), contrasting the radiant freshness of the epic 2008 base vintage. For the price, it's the best bubbles on the planet right now."
Tyson Stelzer

One of Charles Heidsieck's unique selling points is the high use of reserves in its flagship Brut Reserve cuvee, which is formed of around 40% reserve wine from up to 200 base wines with an average age of 10 years.  Indeed only Krug Grande Cuvee uses more reserve wines (£1250/12).  This champagne house takes its Brut Reserve so seriously that it chose not to release a 2002 vintage, despite the remarkable quality of this vintage, instead choosing to use the best grapes for its reserve wine library.

"Beautifully balanced, with a lasting, mouthwatering finish."

"(2008 base). From a hundred or so villages and 40% reserve wines Cyril Brun makes one of the very best non-vintage champagnes produced by a large house"
