Almaviva 2008

"The finest Cabernet-based wine I have ever had from Chile" - Robert Parker

In 1997, the forward-looking
Baroness Philippine de Rothschild - of First Growth Chateau Mouton Rothschild - formed a partnership with Concha y Toro - their mission was to make a New World wine in the classic French tradition. Over the past decade this prodigious Franco-Chilean wine - Almaviva - has been made using classic French varieties of Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc and Carmenère (with characteristics similar to Merlot).

Almaviva is today a true joint venture, the much-feted collaboration between two giants of the wine world and indisputably one of Chile's finest wines. There is serious quality here and we are pleased to offer the very good 2008 vintage.

2008 ALMAVIVA - £690 per 12 bottles

The long slow harvest with cooler nights has resulted in a very aromatic and expressive wine. From low-yielding vines, the 2008 is characterised by good concentration of pure black fruit, great minerality and crisp acidity. The ripe and refined tannins contribute to a density that wonderfully balances the different flavours with an impressively long finish. The 2008 is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon 66%, Carmenère 26%, Cabernet Franc 8%.
