Saffredi - The Top 5 Vintages

James Suckling recently penned an article for Hong Kong Tatler magazine (free to view) where he selected his top five Saffredi vintages of all time.  Tasting through almost every vintage ever made by the Tuscan property he found that the most impressive examples were amongst the most recent releases.

We are pleased to offer 4 of the top 5 vintages, immediately available from stock, along with our last 12 bottles of the "pure and pretty" 1999 vintage.

"Over the weekend I had a party with some close friends at my house in Tuscany. One of them brought an imperial (!) of 2012 Saffredi, an Italian red that has set the standard for wines on the coast of Tuscany for the past four decades. Last summer I tasted almost every vintage of the wine ever made and found the Bordeaux blend's best bottles were the most recent releases."

The first vintage of Fattoria le Pupille's Saffredi was 1985, at which time Le Pupille was a small winery with just 6 hectares of vineyards.  Christian Le Sommer, former winemaker at Chateau Latour, took over winemaking at the property in 2000 and a significant increase in quality was seen.  Today Saffredi is aged for 15-18 months in 100% new barrels and is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot from a single vineyard on the hillside of the Tuscan coast near the city of Grosseto.

"Recent vintages have been nothing less than brilliant"
