Tenuta di Castelgiocondo Brunello

Castelgiocondo
We are delighted to offer some top Brunellos from Tenuta di Catelgiocondo including the impressive 2009 and the "amazing" 1997 Riserva in magnums.  These are new in stock and offered at great prices.

This historic Montalcino estate has been under the ownership of the Frescobaldi family since 1989 and is famed for producing structured balanced powerful wines.  Castelgiocondo is ideally located to produce top quality Sangiovese - South West facing with a warm dry climate, well drained soils, 180-400 metres elevation and benefiting from the cooling marine breeze.

"Frescobaldi's stunning Tenuta di Castelgiocondo is one of the most beautiful estates in Montalcino... Although the house style had veered toward more nuanced and elegant expressions in recent years, the 2009 Brunello takes us back to the signature opulence and power that cemented the winery's reputation in international markets years ago."

2009 CASTELGIOCONDO BRUNELLO, FRESCOBALDI
"Wonderful depth and richness to this wine for 2009. It's full-bodied, with a clean, polished tannin texture and a long, long finish.  Last for minutes on the palate. A triumph for the vintage. Drink or hold."

2007 CASTELGIOCONDO BRUNELLO, FRESCOBALDI
"The 2007 Brunello di Montalcino Castelgiocondo is a rich, explosive wine endowed with generous fruit and an extroverted personality to match. Black cherries, flowers, licorice and spices are woven together nicely in this deep, layered Brunello. The 2007 will appeal most to readers who appreciate the lush, fruit-driven side of Brunello. This is very well done but falls just a bit short of being viscerally thrilling. Anticipated maturity: 2015-2025"

1997 CASTELGIOCONDO BRUNELLO RISERVA, FRESCOBALDI
"Absolutely gorgeous nose, with plum, Indian spices and blackberry. Full-bodied, with lots of dark chocolate, spices and vanilla. This is so young. Wonderfully silky and refined. I always loved the mint, berry and spice character in this wine and the layers of fruit and fine tannins. Amazing.--1997 Italian blind retrospective. Best from 2009 through 2020."
