Bordeaux 2015: Haut Brion & La Mission Haut Brion

Today begins with the wines made at Haut Brion and La Mission which have made brilliant wines in 2015.  One of our team's favourite tastings this year in Bordeaux.

LA MISSION HAUT BRION - £3180 per 12.  A powerful and extravagant La Mission.  Offered at a discount to the great recent vintages of La Mission with similar critics' scores: 2005 at £3800, 2009 at £4350 and 2010 at £3850. 
100 James Suckling "The purity in this wine is really mindblowing. So perfect. Licorice. Stone. Blackberry, blueberry. Full body. The power is amazing. But then it finishes etheral and so agile and beautiful. I am lost for words. This will rank with the best ever from here including 1975 and 1929."
97-99 Neal Martin "Complete and profound, the 2015 will rank as one of the great modern-day classics from this grand estate, another to add to that long list of magical La Missions."

HAUT BRION - £4260 per 12 - Legendary First Growth Haut Brion is now out, its 2015 a wine of incredibly complexity and elegance.  Always the smallest production of the Firsts Growths, Haut Brion is also often cited as the connoisseurs' choice, with the recent great vintages currently 2005 at £5650, 2009 at £5400, 2010 at £5950. 98-100 Neal Martin "Having had the pleasure of many great wines from this estate in the past - 1945, 1955, 1959, 1961 and 1989 - the 2015 belongs among that pantheon."
97-98 James Suckling "A structured and powerful Haut-Brion with so much finesse and beauty. Complex and long. It's full and ultra-refined. Super length and polish. A formed and sexy Haut Brion.

90-92 Antonio Galloni "A huge, ample wine, the 2015 La Clarence de Haut-Brion will give readers a very good idea of what the vintage is all about at the château. The flavors are dark and boldly sketched throughout. Violet, lavender, mint, spice, gravel and earthiness all add to the wine's distinctly masculine, brooding personality."
