Bordeaux 2015: Lynch Moussas, Boyd Cantenac, Franc Mayne, Pouget, Sociando Mallet...

So far this morning we have:

  • Franc Mayne at £220 per 12. A St Emilion with some impressive scores.  92-93 from Suckling and 93-95 from Neal Martin "Precise, focused and elegant without compromising the fruit, this is perhaps the best wine that I have tasted from this estate. Bravo!".
  • Boyd Cantenac at £320 per 12. 91-93 from Neal Martin for this small production Third Growth Margaux "plenty of ripe blackcurrant, bilberry and wild strawberry fruit on what feels quite a lavish and voluminous nose that is determined to make an impression... It is a powerful Margaux that deserves a decade in bottle".
  • Lynch Moussas at £270 per 12. Classed Growth Pauillac with 92-94 from Neal Martin "a spice-tinged finish that lingers long in the mouth. It is a very fine follow-up to the 2014 last year, with a freshness and class that I did not find conveyed ten years ago".
  • Marquis de Terme at £300 per 12Euro release price is up 25% on last year, possibly due to its high scores.  92-94 Neal Martin "This is a very fine Margaux" and 94-95 James Suckling "Greatest Marquis de Terme ever made. Full body, chewy tannins and rich fruit. Yet shows tension and form. Super quality. Best ever.".
  • Sociando Mallet at £235 per 12.  Consistently one of the best wines of the Northern Medoc, Sociando used to be an insider's secret.  The 2015 is similar in price to the 2009 and 2010 and considerably more expensive than the higher scoring 2014 (£200 per 12).  85-87 from Neal Martin (2014 was 90-92) and 92-93 James Suckling.
  • Pedesclaux at £290 per 12. Fifth Growth Pauillac with 90-92 Neal Martin "nicely proportioned and sure to age well, continuing the vigorous upward curve of this estate. One to watch."

And one release that you may have missed from late on Friday:

  • Pouget at £270 per 12.  Fourth Growth Chateau Pouget is one of the smallest estates in the 1855 classification and probably the rarest, with just 4000 cases a year on average. 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 19% Merlot, 4% Petit Verdot and 7% Cabernet Franc. There is good ripeness here, crisp fragrant black fruit with a hint of spice. Medium weight of richer fruit with mellow rounded tannins, freshness and overall lovely balance. Stylish and very Margaux.
