'one of the most dazzling white-wine-makers in Burgundy'

Chevalier Montrachet, Sauzet label

We are delighted to offer the excellent 2010 vintage from Domaine Etienne Sauzet which was recently well rated by Allen Meadows of Burghound.  All are in stock and available immediately.

Etienne Sauzet's son in law, Gérard Boudot, arrived at the Domaine 1974 and is renowned for his meticulous attention to detail. In his definitive book on Burgundy Anthony Hanson describes Boudot as 'one of the most dazzling white-wine-makers in Burgundy'.  In 2010 the quality is undoubtedly high however due to poor flowering the quantities available are greatly reduced.

'Burgundy lovers should snap up the white 2010 vintage... 2010 is a small, light and refreshing vintage...more classically Burgundian than 2009, driven by firm acidity but also ripe'

2010 Chevalier Montrachet, Domaine Sauzet - £2200 per 12 bottles IB - 12 bottles available
94-96 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "An ultra-elegant nose is comprised of primarily floral and white orchard fruit with top notes of citrus and Chablis-style mineral reduction where the latter element accurately telegraphs the presence of an intense stoniness on the cuts-like-a-knife flavors that are not quite as delicate as those of the Bienvenues but almost. In exchange however they possess more power and all of the refinement before culminating in a bone dry finish that is notably more restrained and while hugely long, not really explosive. This is a stylish Chevalier of class and grace and should amply repay 10 to 12 years of cellar time.  Comments: Don't miss!"  Drink 2020+
2010 Batard Montrachet, Domaine Sauzet - £1900 per 12 bottles IB - 12 bottles available
93-96 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "As is typically the case this is slightly riper than the Bienvenues with a pretty and densely fruited nose of white peach, pear, acacia blossom and background hints of citrus and toast. As is also typical, this large-scaled, intense, concentrated and overtly powerful effort is clearly bigger, richer and more imposing than its grand cru partner. The complexity is simply fantastic as is the persistence of the palate staining finish. While I usually am more impressed by finesse and refinement than power as it's much harder to achieve, the extra depth and stunning length of the Bâtard gives it the nod in 2010. Note that this is also bone dry and will need every bit of 12 to 15 years to arrive at its apogee. In a word, wow.  Comments: Don't miss!"  Drink 2022+
2010 Puligny Folatieres, Domaine Sauzet - £620 per 12 bottles IB - 24 bottles available
91-93 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "beautifully complex nose features hints of pear, white peach, acacia blossom and mineral reduction. The mineral character also completely informs the chiselled, intense and tension-filled flavours that culminate in a citrusy, austere, bone dry and saline finish. This is terrific and absolutely textbook Folatières.  Comments: Outstanding"  Drink 2017+
2010 Puligny Champs Canet, Domaine Sauzet - £600 per 12 bottles IB - 18 bottles available
92-94 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "There is a hint of the exotic to the otherwise more typical aromas of dried yellow orchard fruits that include apricot, peach and mango. The textured, intense and mouth coating flavors are concentrated, serious and beautifully well-balanced on the superbly long finish. This is a very classy wine and if not the most complex among these Puligny 1ers, then perhaps the most refined. Comments: Sweet spot Outstanding"  Drink 2017+
2010 Puligny Perrieres, Domaine Sauzet - £520 per 12 bottles IB - 18 bottles available
90-92 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "This is slightly riper than is typical for a fine Perrières with a wonderfully refined nose of white and yellow orchard fruit with particular emphasis on apricot and white peach. The seductively rich and mineral-driven flavors possess a fine sense of volume and excellent length if not quite the same overall depth as the Referts. Still, this is lovely and should reward 7 to 9 years of cellar time."  Drink 2017+
2010 Puligny Referts, Domaine Sauzet - £500 per 12 bottles IB - 6 bottles available
91-93 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "Here the sulfur is strong enough to dominate the nose and thus it's impossible to provide a competent evaluation. By contrast the rich, generous and overtly opulent flavors possess seemingly buckets of dry extract that impart an almost chewy sensation to the persistent and faultlessly harmonious finish. Textbook Referts. Comments: Outstanding"  Drink 2017+
2010 Chassagne Encegnieres, Domaine Sauzet - £320 per 12 bottles IB - 12 bottles available
88 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "Soft reduction doesn't materially reduce the appeal of the floral, pear, white peach and rosemary resin nuances. There is excellent volume and solid delineation to the energetic medium-bodied flavors that possess an attractively dry, linear and persistent finish. This is finer than it usually is as Encégnières is usually quite full-bodied and generous yet in 2010 it's really quite tight and will require a few years of bottle age first before it's ready."  Drink 2015+
2010 Puligny Montrachet, Domaine Sauzet - £300 per 12 bottles IB - 60 bottles available
89 Allen Meadows, Burghound: "This is more elegant than the Chassagne villages with more floral influence in the form of acacia blossom that combines with pretty pear and peach aromas. There is good detail and mid-palate concentration to the middle weight flavors, all wrapped in a well-balanced, linear and impressively persistent finish. Sauzet always seems to do well with this wine and has done so again in 2010. Recommended. Comments: Outstanding"  Drink 2016+
