Affordable Clarets from the brilliant 2009 Vintage
Affordable Clarets from the Gorgeous 2009 Vintage
The hallmark of a truly great vintage is an abundance of stunning wines even at entry price levels, and that is exactly what we have in 2009. We are delighted to offer a selection of very well-priced wines that offer excellent value, from £12-18 pounds per bottle, including taxes. 2009 Haut Barrail is a particular standout and recently featured in the Sunday Times' "Top 50 Reds" - a bargain at £11.48 per bottle! All available immediately for delivery.
"Rich, plump, plummy, spicy merlot with all the beguiling, sweet, sumptuous and fruity seductive fruit that is the hallmark of this vintage. This cru bourgeois claret from Bégadan at the northern end of the Médoc is topped up with a good dollop of cabernet sauvignon and a dash of malbec. Serve with rosy pink lamb or beef. - 'Top 50 reds??' - Jane MacQuitty, Sunday Times 1/12/2012
"Very dark, lustrous crimson. Serious stuff in terms of build and with lovely ripe fruit. Jewelly and bright and energetic and no hurry to drink this well-structured wine. A little dry on the finish for the moment." 16.5 Points ? Drink 2014-2020, Jancis Robinson MW. October 2012
"The Peyredon Lagravette 2009 has a very fragrant bouquet with a lot of oak but sufficient fruit underneath to support it. The palate is medium-bodied with a fine, grippy entry and a nice fleshy mouthfeel towards the cohesive, grippy finish. A complete Cru Bourgeois that should drink well over 5-8 years. Good stuff !" 90 Points?, Neal Martin
"57% Cabernet Sauvignon, 35% Merlot, 8% Cabernet Franc. Dark, lustrous crimson. Neat, nicely balanced, nothing out of kilter. Very juicy and positive. Lovely purity. Just the ticket (for a St-Estèphe)!" 17 Points?, Drink 2014-2024?, Jancis Robinson MW,
"The Serilhan 2009 has a more introverted bouquet at this primordial stage, although there is certainly a lot of fruit concentration that reluctantly opens in time : blackberry, blueberry, a touch of sage and cedar. The palate is medium-bodied with an attractive citric thread, firm tannins and lots of freshness and vitality towards the vibrant finish. A joyous Saint Estephe" 90 Points?, Neal Martin
"The Les Grands Chenes has wonderful lift on the Margaux-like bouquet with pure black cherries and iodine. The palate is medium-bodied with very fine fruit intensity on the entry, great precision and poise with a succinct, precise finish that is just a class above. Superb" 90 Points?, Neal Martin
