Tasting Notes

Smoky and pretty with some floral elements. No more concentrated than La Tour Blanche but very pretty indeed. Lots of vegy floral elements.

The 2014 Doisy-Daëne L'Extravagant is a bit subdued in this vintage, but its class and pedigree comes through just the same. Brioche, coconut, baked apple tart, vanilla and butter all emerge from the glass, but in the brighter, more floral style that is the key signature of this vintage. The clean, fresh finish is invigorating. There is so much to like here. Both of proprietor Denis Dubourdieu's Sauternes are superb in 2014.

Score: 94 - 96 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Date: 01 April 2015

Unctuous, with almond paste, nectarine and creamed yellow apple notes forming the core, leading to a finish laced with hazelnut oil accents. This tightly coiled version will take some time to unwind. A likely classic in the making.

The L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daëne 2014 has a very intense bouquet of wild honey, acacia and orange blossom that soars from the glass. The palate is unctuous, decadent and powerful - completely living up to its name - with layers of honeyed fruit on the long finish. It is like a super-charged Beerenauslese, somehow retaining immense tension and precision on the finish. For hedonists only. Queue up.
