Tasting Notes

The 2013 Capbern Gasqueton has a light, savory bouquet with touches of graphite coming through with aeration, though it remains a bit pinched and mean. The palate is medium-bodied with light, rather "stiff" tannin at the moment, moderate depth, a little surly and missing some flesh towards the tapered, dry and earthy finish. Drink this over the next 5 years.

The Chateau Capbern-Gasqueton 2013 is a blend of 60% Merlot and 40% Cabernet Sauvignon raised in 30% new wood. It has a light graphite scented bouquet that is a little subdued on the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins; graphite infused black fruit with a light classic finish. This is easy drinking but deftly crafted.

91% Cabernets, 6% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot. Lovely medicinal character, classic blackcurrant fruit, dry but not at all astringent. The tannins are grippy but welcoming. This suits its medium body, seems to be very restrained and traditional. Lovely!

Fragrant red and black fruits nose, freshness and minerality on the palate, very elegant wine.

Score: 89 Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2017-2026 Date: 01 April 2014

Light savory and pepper hints fleck a core of soft plum and cherry fruit, with a floral twinge on the finish.
