Tasting Notes

Loads of cedar and clove notes from new oak, but the fruit is bright and bold too. Sieved but insistent mouth-coating tannin. Shame the finish is a bit brief.

Pretty red berry aroma. Full, round and juicy. Fresh. Firm and masculine in style.

Shows a firm plum skin frame, with a core of cherry, bitter plum and blackberry fruit. Lightly singed anise notes appear on the finish.

Nicolas de Bailliencourt told me that for the second year running the Grand Vin is pure Merlot. It has a perfumed and much more floral bouquet compared to recent years. There is fine precision here, though it is not a powerful Gazin. The palate is medium-bodied and just a little pinched on the entry. The structure feels firm, lending it a mannered, conservative feel, whilst the finish is balanced with a truffle tinged finish. Tasted April 2014.

Black cherry and violets on the nose then, pure and clean with high-toned black and blueberry fruit and minerals. Juicy fruit in the middle, ripe with nice structure and a lovely elegant fresh finish.
