Tasting Notes

The 2013 Clos l'Eglise has developed a very attractive bouquet with blackberry, briary and incense aromas that are well defined, very pretty. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp acidity, grainy on the entry with freshness and vigor. I appreciate the density here - not a common feature in 2013 - with a touch of salinity towards the finish. It will give a decade's worth of drinking pleasure.

A blend of 90% Merlot and 10% Cabernet Franc, the Clos l'Eglise was one of the first to be picked around 26 September and then further on into October. It has a ripe, fleshy, red fruit-driven bouquet with touches of espresso in the background. It is nicely defined and expands in the glass. The palate is medium-bodied with rounded, slightly grainy tannins. There is good weight if not enormous persistency, but it feels cohesive and unforced, a natural Pomerol cru that flows gently along. Tasted April 2014.

Classic and restrained. Bright, fresh, harmonious and persistent. Fine tannic frame.

Score: 89 Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2018-2028 Date: 01 April 2014

Very pure and silky, with lovely kirsch and plum notes gliding along. Offers a polished structure and a perfumy floral note on the finish. Understated and well done.
