Another sleeper of the vintage, this excellent effort from the Gardinier family reveals a dense ruby/purple color along with a sweet perfume of mulberries, black cherries and black currants. An absence of herbaceousness gives the wine an attractive plump, fruit-driven mouthfeel with earth, light tannin and structure. Enjoy this excellent 2011 over the next 7-8 years. Score: 88 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2014-2022 Date: 01 April 2014 |

A sleeper of the vintage, this is a beautiful follow-up, in a much more challenging vintage, to their exceptional 2009. Deep plum/purple-hued with a nose of mulberries, black currants and cassis, the wine is dense, medium-bodied, ripe for a 2011, with good underlying acidity and a seriously endowed, layered texture. The tannins are present, but well-integrated and ripe. Drink it over the next 10-12 years. Score: 89 - 91 Robert Parker, Wine Advocate, RobertParker.com Maturity: 2012-2024 Date: 30 April 2012 |

The Phelan-Segur has an attractive bouquet with crisp blackberry and floral aromas, pretty in a similar way to Lilian Ladouys. The palate is medium-bodied with crisp chalky tannins. The oak is well integrated with fine acidity, the finish foursquare but long. Classic Phelan Segur. Tasted April 2012. Well-extracted, slightly spicy-gamey black fruits and very good smooth ripe tannins. It shows elegance, depth and class. Score: 16 - 17 Decanter, Decanter.com Maturity: 2014-2025 Date: 16 April 2012 |

Ripe, dark and savoury. Lots of oak char on the palate. Dense, firm but there's fruit under there somewhere, just well hidden. Chewy finish with some finishing sweetness. (JH) Score: 16 - 17 Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Maturity: 2021-2035 Date: 16 April 2012 |

Stylish, with perfumy black tea, mulled spice and black cherry notes and racy minerality already showing on the finish. Score: 88 - 91 James Molesworth, Wine Spectator Date: 11 April 2012 |

A wine with blueberry and mineral character and hints of cedar. Full and silky with a lovely texture of tannins for the vintage. Seamless tannins. Score: 91 - 92 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Date: 01 April 2012 |
