The 2020 Lanessan is just as compelling from bottle as it was from barrel. Dark, virile and imposing, Lanessan offers up a mix of black cherry, plum, gravel, incense, tobacco, scorched earth and licorice. Firm tannins wrap it all together in style. This is a terrific showing. Score: 92 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2026-2040 Date: 23 February 2023 |

The 2020 Lanessan is impressive, to say the least. Dark, layered and mysterious, the 2020 packs serious punch, the blackberry jam, incense, scorched earth and leather all melding together. I especially admire the wine's depth and textural intensity. Beautifully done. Score: 90 - 92 Antonio Galloni, Vinous.com Maturity: 2026-2040 Date: 01 June 2021 |

The 2020 Lanessan has a very attractive nose, more floral than its fellow Haut-Médocs, focused and tensile with blackberry, pencil lead and light mint aromas. The palate is medium-bodied fresh and vibrant. Graphite and a dab of black pepper towards the persistent finish. This is a fine 2020 from the recently-sold estate. Score: 91 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2026-2045 Date: 08 February 2023 |

The 2020 Lanessan presents a very perfumed nose of dark cherries, cassis, cedar and background tobacco aromas, turning quite minty with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with firm tannins, a crisp line of acidity, plenty of tightly wound black fruit and a saline finish. This is a classy Lanessan, quite complex and intense yet refined. Score: 90 - 92 Neal Martin, Vinous.com Maturity: 2027 - 2045 Date: 27 May 2021 |

Undated cask sample. 52% Cabernet Sauvignon, 43% Merlot, 5% Petit Verdot. Machine-harvested and aged in concrete. Purple. Nicely balanced Médoc fruit in a dry wine with marked tannin. Straightforward club claret for a typical old-fashioned gentleman's club – or would the gentlemen find it too ripe? Score: 15+ Jancis Robinson MW, JancisRobinson.com Date: 08 May 2021 |

Very beautiful, fine-tannined red with blackberry and blueberry character. Lovely chocolate and hazelnut undertones. Fine tannins. Fresh finish. Score: 92 - 93 James Suckling, JamesSuckling.com Date: 03 May 2021 |

Readers looking for a great buy in the vintage should check out the 2020 Château Lanessan, which offers ample dark (almost blue) fruits, cassis, and spring flower notes to go with a medium-bodied, nicely concentrated, balanced beauty that has enough tannins and structure to warrant 2-4 years of bottle age.
