Tasting Notes

The 2017 Blason d’Issan has a straightforward, slightly Pauillac-inspired bouquet, a little austere in style at the moment. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannin, masculine in style (especially for a Deuxième Vin). Quite fresh and firm towards the finish, this is a Blason that will benefit from a couple of years in bottle.

The 2017 Blason d'Issan is delightful and fruity, in other words everything a second wine should be. Medium in body, fresh and inviting, the 2017 will drink beautifully upon release. Floral and spice notes add a lovely sense of lift throughout. The blend is 60% Cabernet Sauvignon and 40% Merlot. Harvest started on September 18, the earliest since 2003. Quite unusually, there was no break in between the picking of the Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. Indeed, some of the younger vine Cabernet came in before all the Merlots were in.

Mid cherry red. Pretty floral fragrance of dark-red fruit and sweet violets. Silky and sweet fruited, light on the mid palate so that some oak sweetness shows on the finish but it's pretty and charming. At the moment there is a slightly intrusive oak note on the finish.

This is round and velvety with a juicy and fruity character and an undertone of sweet strawberries. Round and full-bodied. Sweet tannins.
