Tasting Notes

The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard has an attractive bouquet of bilberry and blueberry fruit laced with graphite and undergrowth. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and quite linear in style at the moment. More red fruit develops toward the sappy finish. This is a pleasurable La Fleur de Boüard, although it needs more charm.

The 2016 La Fleur de Bouard has a generous bouquet with ample black cherry and cassis scents, with a touch of oyster shell and cold flint in the background. The palate is medium-bodied with smooth and supple tannin. The tannins grip the mouth though it does not become too overpowering, while there is an attractive tobacco note that complements the dusky black fruit on the finish. A more classically styled Lalande-de-Pomerol from the de Boüards, it has more personality than previously vintages, and it will give 15-20 years of drinking pleasure.

The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard is gorgeous. Sweet, floral notes lift the red berry fruit in this gracious, mid-weight wine. Raspberry, wild flowers, mocha, spice and mint all run through this lithe, silky wine. The 2016 possesses notable silkiness, nuance and finesse. This is a terrific showing.

The 2016 La Fleur de Boüard is the best wine I have tasted from Hubert De Boüard's Lalande de Pomerol estate. Pliant, creamy and expansive - with notable depth - the 2016 is super-impressive. Raspberry jam, mocha, exotic spice and French oak all meld together. More importantly, though, the 2016 comes across as less heavy and extracted than in the past, with sweet tannins and terrific balance. Today, it is superb. Tasted two times.

85% Merlot, 10% Cabernet Franc, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon. Very pure dark plum and blackcurrant fruit. Cool and smooth in the mouth, moreish with good verve of acidity on the finish.

Very dark crimson. Bit of sandpaper on the nose. Very rich and sweet. Almost over the top but there is freshness at the end. This is a strong statement! Drying and rather cool on the end.

Chewy and dense red with licorice, blackberry and dark-chocolate character. Full body and a tight and firm texture. Shows lovely length, too.
